Job summary

Banner Health's Graduate Medical Education (GME) department in Phoenix seeks an Academic Learning Specialist to promote resident and fellow academic success. You will provide individualized learning guidance, assess programs, and implement evidence-based strategies to improve outcomes.

You will collaborate with program directors and faculty, offer time and study-skills coaching, and help develop personalized learning plans to support ongoing professional development in a Magnet-designated

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education or related field.
• Minimum of three years’ experience as academic/learning support or learning specialist at undergraduate or graduate school.
• Experience working with advanced graduate and professional students.
• Knowledge of teaching principles, practices, and procedures.
• Knowledge of educational resources focused on techniques-based learning theory and evidence-based strategies.
• Ability to effectively communicate with residents, fellows, staff, and faculty.

Responsibilities

• Manages academic intervention and advises residents and fellows on ways to enhance learning and performance.
• Develops and presents workshops for individual programs as needed, collaborates with other faculty and staff to accomplish program goals.
• Collaborates with program directors to develop and modify individualized learning plans for residents/fellows as needed.
• Provides individual appointments to assist residents/fellows with organization, time management, stress management, studying, and test-taking strategies.
• Works with resident/fellow program directors to identify academic needs related to medical knowledge acquisition, interpersonal skills and communication, practice-based learning and improvement, and professionalism.
• Reviews and suggests enhancements to learner assessment tools to improve formative and summative feedback.
• Develops and oversees a coaching program to connect residents/fellows with trained faculty from other programs.
• Manages data collection and prepares reports and analyses to identify progress, adverse trends, and recommendations for short- and long-term strategies.
