Job summary

JohnsByrne in Illinois is seeking a full-time Folding and Gluing Technician for the JB-CHI Oakton – Niles facility. This role operates 3rd shift with a $2 shift differential, handling folding and gluing equipment per job tickets and specs.

You will ensure safety, quality, and efficiency, review tickets, maintain documentation, and collaborate with feeders, packers, and team members to keep production moving smoothly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of experience operating folding and/or gluing equipment.
  • Background in packaging, printing, or converting is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and follow job tickets and production documents.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate folding and gluing equipment based on job tickets and approved specifications.
  • Run equipment at optimal speeds while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
  • Review job tickets to ensure accuracy of all requirements.
  • Monitor production and make adjustments to maintain quality and performance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and escalate when needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor mechanical repairs (non-electrical).
  • Ensure proper materials are available and correctly staged for production.
  • Reconcile production counts and maintain accurate system reporting (e.g., Hagen system).
  • Complete production documentation and logs accurately and on time.
  • Prepare for upcoming jobs to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment (5S standards).
  • Follow all safety guidelines, SOPs, and company procedures.

  • Set up and operate folding and gluing equipment based on job tickets and approved specifications
  • Run equipment at optimal speeds while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards
  • Review job tickets to ensure accuracy of all requirements (orientation, labeling, quantities, skid configuration, and special instructions)
  • Monitor production and make adjustments to maintain consistent quality and performance
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and escalat when needed
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor mechanical repairs (non-electrical)
  • Ensure proper materials are available and correctly staged for production
  • Partner with Feeders, Packers, and team members to support smooth workflow
  • Reconcile production counts and maintain accurate system reporting (e.g., Hagen system)
  • Complete production documentation and logs accurately and on time
  • Prepare for upcoming jobs to help reduce downtime and improve efficiency
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment (5S standards)

Physical Requirements

This role is active and hands-on in a manufacturing environment:

  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching
  • Continuous use of hands for handling materials
  • Repetitive motion throughout the shift
  • Regular pushing and pulling of materials
