The Global Trade Compliance Manager (GTCM) manages key contracts to support LP’s strategic relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and governmental agencies. The GTCM is an integral part of the LP project management group, closely managing cross-border compliance aspects of the LP supply chain and LP Building Solutions to maintain a solid and uninterrupted flow, with a strategic focus on cost avoidance and adherence to budget. The GTCM develops and negotiates all facets of contracts with customs brokers, including strategic initiatives and studies for pre-qualification, benchmarking, and risk mitigation, aiming for optimal performance aligned with LP’s management objectives.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop, implement, document, and maintain comprehensive trade compliance initiatives for LP. Manage the day-to-day processing of export and import activities.
- Identify strategic training initiatives to elevate awareness and knowledge across the organization.
- Develop and maintain a strategic project initiative (utilizing Hoshin principles) for LP’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan (BCDR).
- Collaborate actively with strategic teams during negotiations of international proposals and contracts. Provide guidance on INCOTERMS, discuss terms, roles, and responsibilities, validate freight rates and routes, and evaluate tax implications.
- Analyze and interpret export and import regulations, maintaining current knowledge of changes affecting the business.
- Manage the Restricted Parties Screening program corporate-wide.
- Review harmonized tariff codes and classifications for accuracy.
- Manage standardized self-audit and testing processes to identify potential trade compliance issues.
- Focus on employing technology to optimize data transfer.
- Conduct strategic and financial assessments of Value Reconciliation filing in ACE and CARM.
- Utilize Customs Valuation Reporting at shipment time to streamline the post-entry Value-Reconciliation Process.
- Identify opportunities for cost avoidance through the preferential treatment of applicable Free Trade Agreements.
- Manage and foster relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and service providers.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged by management.
- Prioritize tasks, provide excellent customer service, respond timely, and complete projects on schedule.
- Stay informed on economic and market dynamics for effective capacity and budget planning.
- Support compliance by maintaining confidentiality, acting ethically, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable laws and policies.
- Assist in department budget preparation, analysis, and monitoring expenditures.
- Report potential export control violations, support investigations, ensure compliance disclosures are accurate, and develop remedial actions.
- Review export compliance policies annually and lead self-assessments to identify process improvements.
What do I need to be successful?
- 5+ years of professional import-export compliance experience.
- 5+ years of experience and knowledge of ACE; familiarity with Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, CARM is a plus.
- Proven expertise in Global Trade Compliance.
- Customs Broker License is strongly preferred.
- Strong program management and organizational skills to implement and monitor trade compliance programs.
- Knowledge of US and foreign Customs agencies and regulatory requirements.
- Expertise with US Customs, Customs Valuation, Tariff classification, USMCA/FTAs, ISF, INCOTERMS, Export Controls, and Restricted Parties Screening.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, demonstrating leadership, initiative, sound judgment, and curiosity.
Education
- A background in International Business or equivalent experience.
- This position is remote, working from a home office.
- May require quarterly work from Nashville office.
