Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Global Trade Compliance Counsel to serve as the subject matter expert on export controls across SpaceX programs. The role involves advising on ITAR/EAR requirements, developing compliance policies, and coordinating with regulators.

The attorney will lead investigations, manage licenses and exemptions, and work closely with engineering and business teams to ensure regulatory compliance. This is an onsite, U.S.-based position located at Starbase, TX.

Qualifications

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
• 3+ years of experience in corporate legal department or law firm advising on U.S. federal regulatory matters including export controls, sanctions, or trade matters.
• Onsite work in Starbase, TX; must be admitted to the bar in at least one U.S. state.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on ITAR/EAR requirements for export-controlled commodities, software, data, and defense services.
• Develop and improve export compliance policies and procedures; leverage technology to identify gaps.
• Collaborate with engineering on jurisdiction and classification determinations for hardware, software, and tech used in rockets and satellites.
• liaise with regulators (State, Commerce) on interpretations and authorizations.
• Prepare and manage export licenses and exemptions as applicable.
• Lead investigations of potential non-compliance and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct internal compliance audits and drive policy improvements.
• Build trusted advisor relationships with SpaceX business partners.
