Job summary

Vinson Elkins in Austin, TX seeks a Director of Tax to lead the firm’s US and international tax functions, overseeing compliance, strategy, and risk management across jurisdictions. You will manage partner-related tax matters, transfer pricing, and tax planning activities while directing tax technology and staff.

The role requires deep expertise in US federal/state tax, international tax issues, and cross-border structuring.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
CPA certification is mandatory; a JD with tax background may be considered.
Advanced degree (Master of Taxation, JD or LLM) preferred.
12–15 years of progressive tax experience, including management.

Responsibilities

Oversee US and non-US tax filings and Schedule K-1 reporting.
Lead partner tax reporting, estimates, and elections for multistate and international matters.
Advise on tax implications of partner changes and cross-border moves.
Oversee multistate tax compliance and planning for partners.
Manage federal, state, local, and foreign tax examinations and disclosures.
Develop and lead tax team; manage staffing, budget and performance.
Oversee tax accounting and forecasting for cash flows and distributions.
Establish global tax governance, policies, and risk management framework.
