Job summary

Harvard University is seeking an International Student and Scholar Advisor to provide immigration advising for F-1 and J-1 students and scholars, ensuring compliance and proactive planning aligned with government regulations.

As a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), you will interpret regulations, maintain SEVIS data, advise on maintaining status, employment, and visa documents, and coordinate with campus units to support international students and scholars

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a job-related field; two years of experience in student services with international students.
• Experience with SEVIS compliance issues/processes.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 program and as Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 program under the U.S.
• Provide immigration advising on maintenance of status, changes of status, school transfers, full-time enrollment, extensions, employment, practical training, and reinstatement.
• Act as Advisor on Call for visa documents and travel plans; provide travel signatures for F-1 and J-1 visa holders; assist with social security numbers and ITIN documentation.
• Manage casework processing for employment-based visa sponsorships (J-1s, H-1Bs, TNs, O’s and other visa holders).
• Establish relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, and agencies; advise on organizational and event management; ensure student safety.
• Coordinate SEVIS data input and transfer with other departments; monitor data collection and reporting requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to diverse cultural needs; collaborate with Title IX offices where applicable.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
