Job summary

Harvard University, through the Harvard International Office (HIO), seeks an International Student and Scholar Advisor to provide immigration advising and support in pre-arrival guidance, orientation, and cultural adaptation for international students and scholars. As DSO/ARO, you ensure compliance with government regulations for F-1 and J-1 programs and collaborate across university offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a job-related field.
• Experience with SEVIS compliance issues in campus-based ISSO.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to present to students.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 program and as Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 program.
• Provide immigration advising on status maintenance, transfers, full-time enrollment, extensions, employment, CPT/OPT, and reinstatement.
• Act as Advisor on Call for students and scholars; provide visa document guidance and travel signatures; assist with Social Security/ITIN letters.
• Manage casework for employment-based sponsorships (J-1, H-1B, TN, O, etc).
• Coordinate SEVIS data entry and collaborates with departments to ensure data accuracy.
• Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to diverse cultural needs; may work with Title IX.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
