Job summary

Vertex Inc. in Boston offers a 6-month co-op within the Record-to-Report (RTR) function of the Chief Accounting Organization.

You will gain hands-on experience in finance transformation, standardization, automation, and process improvement while supporting cross-functional teams across Accounting, IT, Tax, Treasury and Legal. Ideal candidates are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields, and must be available full-time Jan–Jul 2027 with legal authorization to work

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in: Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• At least one prior co-op experience, preferred not required.
• Stakeholder interactions will largely be in Boston, MA or virtual with international colleagues.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships/co-ops or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
• You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2027.
• You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January – July 2027.

Responsibilities

• Support the R2R Strategy & Optimization team with day-to-day activities related to process improvement initiatives.
• Assist in documenting current accounting and reporting processes, including process flows, procedures, and supporting materials.
• Help gather, organize, and analyze information to identify process improvement opportunities.
• Contribute to defining the AI strategy for accounting, including the prioritization of key initiatives through year end.
• Support project tracking by helping maintain timelines, action items, meeting notes, and status updates.
• Assist with preparation of presentation materials, summaries, and reports for team and stakeholder meetings.
• Help develop and update process documentation, playbooks, toolkits, and training materials.
• Participate in meetings with cross-functional teams such as Accounting, Finance, IT, Tax, Treasury, and Legal to capture notes and follow-up actions.
• Support data collection and basic analysis for metrics related to close and reporting processes.
• Assist the team with testing, implementation, and rollout activities for process or system improvement initiatives.
• Conduct research on leading practices, process improvement ideas, and relevant technologies to support team priorities.
• Provide general administrative and project support to the R2R Strategy & Optimization team as needed.
