Job summary

The National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) at the University of Nebraska is seeking an RF Field Scientist for overseas deployments supporting DoW/USG sponsors. You will join a two-person field team handling installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and recovery of specialized sensing systems at varied overseas locations.

Deployment is 60 days in-country, 30 days home. The role requires strong engineering background, the ability to work independently in austere environments,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; equivalent military experience may be considered.
• Minimum 3 years of RF/Electrical engineering project support.
• Experience installing, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex electronic or mechanical systems.
• Experience with sensor systems, RF equipment, and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Deploy as a two-person field team member.
• Serve as primary technical authority for deployment and maintenance of sensing systems.
• Perform field integration, calibration, testing, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.
• Verify system performance and conduct acceptance testing.
• Support data collection and transfer per government requirements.
• Maintain equipment accountability and technical documentation.
• Develop procedures, checklists, and deployment documentation.
• Identify issues, recommend corrective actions, and implement field repairs.
• Work independently with minimal supervision within a small deployment team.
• Provide technical recommendations on system readiness and risk.
• Escalate security-involved issues as needed.
• Assist in mission planning and pre/post-deployment activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety, operation, and sponsor requirements.
