Job summary

Valmet is seeking a Product Engineer to join our Wood Handling team in Florence, AL. You will own technical aspects of chippers, debarking drums and related log-line equipment as part of a global product team.

You’ll collaborate with design, development, sales and service to ensure safety, reliability and cost competitiveness across the lifecycle. Strong SolidWorks skills and international travel readiness are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and ability to prepare mechanical drawings and BOMs.
• Experience with PDM/PLM and ERP systems; familiarity with COMOS, LN or M-Files is an advantage.
• Experience with mechanical engineering for industrial equipment or the process industry; wood-handling equipment is valued.
• Strong communication and coordination skills in a global team; ability to travel internationally.

Responsibilities

• Support the technical lifecycle of chippers, debarking drums and associated equipment; improve safety, reliability, standardization and cost competitiveness.
• Lead or execute layout, basic and detailed engineering using SolidWorks; prepare calculations, drawings, equipment specs and BOMs.
• Work with Sales, project management, procurement and Service to define technical scope and resolve interfaces; participate in customer design reviews.
• Plan and follow up engineering deliverables, hours and costs; manage risks and changes; communicate deviations.
• Coordinate subcontracted designers and engineering partners globally; define work packages and review deliverables.
• Support suppliers and manufacturing by resolving technical questions; provide installation, commissioning and troubleshooting support; travel as required.
