Job summary

AbbVie, based in North Chicago, IL, seeks a Senior Global Process Safety Leader to drive best-in-class process safety across the global manufacturing network. You will lead SMEs, shape safety programs, and ensure capital projects integrate safety and environmental considerations from design through start-up.

The role requires 15+ years in pharma/chemical engineering, global leadership influence, and up to 30% travel. A Master’s may be preferred but is not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical field (life sciences acceptable); Master’s not required but preferred.
• 15+ years in pharma/chemical industries in engineering or manufacturing support.
• Ability to influence global senior leadership decisions.
• Demonstrated experience in process engineering, process design or safety disciplines.
• Willingness to travel ~30% across global sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead global process safety strategy for the manufacturing network.
• Provide regular updates to senior leadership on sites and improvement initiatives.
• Drive global PHA efforts, capital project design reviews and safety training.
• Develop and monitor a global process safety roadmap and KPIs.
• Support internal audits and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Lead talent development and performance management within your team.
