Perplexity is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to join our Finance and Accounting team. You will partner with the Payroll Manager to keep US and international payroll accurate, compliant, and timely as the company scales through rapid hiring and global expansion.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on payroll experience, including multi-state US payroll.
• Experience establishing and managing US state agency accounts.
• Knowledge of California wage statement requirements and state compliance.
• Experience with modern payroll HRIS platforms (Rippling, Workday, ADP, Gusto).
• Strong Excel/Google Sheets for large data sets.
• Knowledge of US payroll tax compliance (SUI, SIT, federal/state withholding).
• Familiarity with equity compensation payroll (RSU/NSO/ISO) a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to catch errors before employees see them.
• Clear communicator to explain payroll topics to employees and stakeholders.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day processing support for US multi-state payroll and assist international payroll.
• Run global contractor payroll cycles and track timecards for timely payments.
• Reconcile deductions, 401(k) deferrals, and employer matches before paychecks post.
• Support state tax accounts and migration of legacy accounts as the company grows.
• Assist with 401(k) and benefits administration and testing.
• Support equity payroll reporting and correct tax treatment of NSO/ISO.
• Manage reimbursement approvals and system integrations (Rippling to NetSuite).
• Serve as first point of contact for employee payroll inquiries.
• Support quarter-end and year-end close including W-2s and ACA reporting.
• Identify process improvements to reduce manual work and boost controls.
