Job summary

UVA Global Networks and Programs, part of the University of Virginia’s Office of Engagement and External Relations, seeks a highly organized intern for the 2026-2027 academic year. The role provides hands-on experience in administration, operations, and systems within a non-profit/higher education setting.

The internship offers flexible scheduling (2-3 days/week, ~6 hours/day) with compensation at an hourly rate of $19.50.

Qualifications

  • Some administrative support experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Interest in constituent communication and/or data management and reporting.
  • Excellent time management and accountability skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manages data entry, report generation, and analysis of data using the Salesforce CRM.
  • Contributes to the strategy, planning, and implementation of volunteer events both virtually and on Grounds.
  • When available, will assist with staffing these events in-person or online.
  • Creates executive summaries using Canva to illustrate program progress or success.
  • Creates surveys in Qualtrics or Microsoft Forms for internal or external audiences.
  • Drafts communications for surveys to constituents and analyzes respondent data.
  • Assists with the onboarding, engagement, offboarding, and stewardship of volunteers, including outbound communications, assembling mailing materials, and responding to inbound volunteer inquiries.

Job description

UVA Global Networks and Programs, part of the University of Virginia’s Office of Engagement and External Relations, is dedicated to connecting alumni, parents, and friends, and volunteers with each other, their local community, and the University of Virginia through a variety of programs and initiatives both around the world and on Grounds.

This team seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented intern for the 2026-2027 academic year. This hands‑on role is ideal for a student seeking administrative, operational, and systems experience in a non‑profit or higher education setting.

Responsibilities
  • Manages data entry, report generation, and analysis of data using the Salesforce CRM.

Minimum Experience and Skills
  • Some administrative support experience
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Interest in constituent communication and/or data management and reporting
  • Excellent time management and accountability skills
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Experience (or enthusiasm to learn) navigating database systems
  • Solid data management and reporting skills
  • Highly personable; ability to effectively communicate via email with internal and external constituents
  • Motivated problem solver, creative thinker, confident in sharing ideas and collaborating on solutions
  • Interest in non-profit or higher education administration

In addition to the job duties and responsibilities outlined above, this position will participate in a structured internship experience through the Internship Placement Program (IPP). If selected, interns must enroll in either UNST 3910 (1 cr.) or UNST 3920 (1 cr.). The courses are offered 9+ times during the fall, offering plenty of options to choose from. If the course does not fit your schedule, we also offer an asynchronous co‑curricular workshop series on Canvas. Through this robust internship experience, students will receive dedicated career support from their supervisor and gain key skills and competencies aligned with their future career interests. The FWS Internship will look great on your resume and provide the student with impactful stories to share in interviews. TFWS Internships are best suited for students in their 2nd – 4th years.

Schedule and Compensation
  • Schedule: Flexible, ideally 2-3 days a week, 6 hours a day
  • Hourly Rate: $19.50
  • Proposed Start Date: September 22, 2026
  • Location: This position is hybrid. Students will work remotely and in the office. The office is located at Old Ivy Hall, 2420 Old Ivy Road.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Current UVA student.
  • Must be eligible for federal work-study.
  • Licensure: None.
Physical Demands
  • This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
  • The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
