Job summary

Global Payments is seeking a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property to lead patent prosecution, portfolio strategy, and IP-driven commercial transactions. You will collaborate with engineering and product teams to align invention disclosures with business goals, while managing outside counsel and navigating global IP matters. The role requires a J.D.

from an ABA-accredited school, USPTO eligibility, and 8+ years in patent/IP roles. A technical background in software/CS/EE is a plus.

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
• 8+ years of experience in patent prosecution and IP counseling, including law firm and/or in-house experience.
• Experience managing outside patent counsel and global IP portfolios.
• Technical background in software, computer science, or electrical engineering is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage global patent prosecution strategies aligned with company technology roadmap.
• Oversee filing and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications; manage outside counsel.
• Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related licenses, SaaS and development agreements, and strategic partnerships.
• Provide IP counseling to engineering, product, and business teams; support IP enforcement and cross-border transactions.
