Job summary

Wellspring Philanthropic Fund invites a Spring Intern to join the International Human Rights (IHR) Program in our Times Square office in New York City. The role runs March–June, about 12-15 hours per week, supporting research, memo-drafting, and program operations.

The intern will work with a program officer to research topics including tax justice, illicit financial flows, transparency in revenues, international trade and investment policy, private actors in public services, and debt relief.

Qualifications

• Graduate student (or recent graduate) pursuing a relevant field (e.g., law, international economics with a focus on poverty, labor, gender, and/or justice issues), public policy, international relations, international development, etc.
• Previous experience in international human rights or economic justice advocacy, philanthropy, public policy, or research in nonprofit settings.
• Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills for professional audiences.
• Experience living, studying, and/or working in the Global South preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish or other world languages preferred.
• Strong analytic, research and organizational skills.
• Initiative, resourcefulness and flexibility.
• Ability to handle confidential client information with discretion.

Responsibilities

• Work with the program officer to research and draft a memo on existing research, advocacy, funding, and strategies (e.g., tax justice, illicit financial flows, transparency in revenues, trade & investment, private actors in public services, corruption, debt relief, and company ownership).
• Develop a research plan with desk research and interviews and complete a memo with guidance from the IHR team.
• Record notes from interviews and build a tracking system for individuals and organizations relevant to the research.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support the IHR team.
