Job summary

Exelixis Inc in Alameda, CA seeks a Senior Director, Clinical Operations to lead worldwide execution of oncology trials (Phase I–IV). You will partner with ClinOps, Product Development Teams, and CROs to ensure timely, high-quality data and compliant operations across programs.

This role oversees resource planning, budgeting, governance, and strategic delivery, mentoring Study Delivery Leads, and shaping the operational plan to support global registration and commercialization of Exelixis

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree + 15+ years related experience; or Master’s + 13 years; or PhD + 12 years; or equivalent combination.
• Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
• Management experience including outsourcing to CROs.
• Strong financial acumen and ability to develop, review and track budgets.

Responsibilities

• Lead the operational delivery plan to execute the scientific strategy for phase 1–4 products and studies.
• Act as contact for portfolio leaders and oversee study delivery.
• Contribute to the Clinical Development Plan and protocol development for feasibility.
• Lead resource discussions and approve the FTE plan for the program.
• Ensure quality delivery and inspection readiness; manage risks and issues across studies.
• Coordinate with CROs and external vendors to ensure program success.
• Represent Clinical Ops at PDTs and governance boards; drive innovative study delivery approaches.
• Build strategic partnerships across Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Statistics, Medical Affairs, Data Management, and other functions.
• Prepare budgets for governance boards and negotiate CRO/vendor contracts.
• Communicate status of goals and program metrics to stakeholders.
• Travel as required (up to 20%).
