Job summary

Canonical is seeking a General Counsel to lead its global Legal and Compliance function. The role reports to the COO and oversees licensing, IP, data privacy, export controls, and governance across EMEA and the Americas.

You will guide the board and executive team, shape commercial contracting frameworks, and drive public-company readiness in a fast-growing, open-source software company.

Qualifications

• Degree in law, active license to practice in an EMEA or Americas jurisdiction.
• Senior in-house experience in a global technology or software business.
• Proven ability to lead a distributed legal team across regions and time zones.

Responsibilities

• Lead the global Legal and Compliance function across EMEA and the Americas.
• Hire, develop and manage managers; set objectives and ensure performance.
• Own corporate governance, policies, disclosures and records in partnership with Finance.
