Job summary

University of Houston Compliance Department seeks an Export Control Professional to ensure UH compliance with federal and state export control laws.

Under the ECO and Chief Compliance Officer, you will review activities, classify commodities, and coordinate with visa and travel screening to safeguard research and personnel. This is a security-sensitive position requiring a criminal history check. The role emphasizes collaboration with international offices and ongoing training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Education: Requires a 4-year degree or equivalent training in a relevant discipline; education can substitute for experience.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of directly job-related experience; preferred 2 years.
• Certification/Licensing: None.
• All UH System positions are security sensitive and require a criminal history check.

Responsibilities

• Conducts reviews of university activities for deemed exports, end use and end-user restrictions.
• Works with ECO to make accurate commodity classifications and requests for classification to external parties, including DoC and DoS.
• Reviews international shipping request forms, including export control classifications and restricted party screenings.
• Partners with ECO and UH's Office of International Student and Scholars to certify, during visa processes, that incoming foreign nationals will not be exposed to controlled technologies without an export license.
• Reviews international travel requests involving UH-owned equipment or business to recommend safety and security measures.
• Supports the Research Security Program's outreach and training, including materials, liaison with departments, tracking, and website maintenance.
• Maintains detailed records and the export control record-keeping systems.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
