Job summary

MSD in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Senior Specialist to lead process design, execution and startup for Small Molecule HPAPI projects. Based at Rahway site, you will report to the Technical Director and collaborate with IPT members, Engineering Firms and Vendors to drive capital project delivery.

You will guide design, risk analyses, and commissioning activities, applying Lean design, standard work, and end-to-end ownership of capital packages. Travel up to 50% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years in pharma/biotech engineering, technology or manufacturing.
• Core knowledge: API processes, containment, MOC, PHA/HAZOP/LOPA, regulatory guidance, PSV, chemical processing.

Responsibilities

• Interface with IPT members to deliver capital projects meeting business objectives.
• Lead technical design workshops to develop Equipment URS.
• Assess options and select leading approaches.
• Develop PFD/P&ID, hazard analyses, electrical classifications, and equipment design.
• Review A&E PFDs/P&IDs to ensure standards and safety requirements.
• Participate in PHA/HAZOP/LOPA sessions and ensure deviations are addressed.
• Act as interface between capital projects and equipment vendors.
• Adhere to Change Control for design changes and cost/schedule impacts.
• Familiar with API operations, safety practices, and HPAPI containment controls.
• Lead Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning activities.
• Lead peer reviews and stay updated on best practices.
