Job summary

Smith+Nephew is seeking a Director of Clinical Data & AI to lead the global strategy, architecture, and execution of clinical data and AI capabilities supporting end-to-end evidence generation.

The role owns the data lifecycle from acquisition to advanced analytics, AI enablement, and synthetic data, ensuring data quality, interoperability, and regulatory readiness across geographies and business units.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience across clinical data, AI/ML, and data platforms in medtech/pharma/biotech
• Proven leadership of multi-domain teams including data management, engineering, data science, AI, and programming
• Experience supporting regulatory submissions and clinical evidence generation
• Enterprise mindset—integrates data, AI, and operations into a unified capability
• Technical depth across data engineering, CDM, AI, and analytics
• Regulatory credibility—understands AI/data decisions for submissions
• Execution rigor—delivers scalable, high-quality platforms and outputs
• Transformational leadership—embeds AI into workflows, not isolated innovation

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the global strategy for Clinical Data & AI aligned to evidence-generation goals
• Own design, governance, and evolution of CDL, standardized data models, and data pipelines
• Lead development and deployment of AI/ML capabilities across the clinical lifecycle
• Oversee synthetic data, simulation, and virtual twins strategies for study design and planning
• Oversee global clinical data management and ensure data quality and regulatory alignment
• Integrate AI into core workflows and drive data-driven decision making across functions
• Drive governance, security, and regulatory compliance across data platforms
