About the Role
The Global Controller will report to the Senior Director of Finance and lead a large accounting team. This leader will own financial reporting, the accounting ERP, the external audit, and the internal controls program, while building the processes and infrastructure needed for public company readiness.
Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and deliver accurate, timely consolidated financial statements under US GAAP.
- Establish and document technical accounting positions on revenue recognition (ASC 606) across consumer and wholesale channels, inventory costing, vendor rebates, lease accounting (ASC 842) for fulfillment facilities, and stock-based compensation.
- Prepare and review financial statements, footnotes, and reporting packages for the Board, lenders, and investors in coordination with outside counsel and auditors.
- Build SEC reporting readiness (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K), including a disclosure calendar aligned with public company requirements.
- Monitor emerging FASB guidance affecting e-commerce and multi-channel retail and assess its impact ahead of adoption.
- Design and maintain a scalable internal controls framework that supports future SOX 404 compliance, including process narratives, risk control matrices, and defined control owners.
- Oversee annual walkthroughs and controls testing, track remediation of deficiencies, and report control status to the CFO and Audit Committee.
- Serve as management's primary contact for the Board and Audit Committee on accounting policy, controls, and audit matters.
- Manage the annual audit timeline and relationship with the independent audit firm, ensuring PBC schedules and support are complete and delivered on time.
- Resolve estimates, reserves, revenue arrangements, and other judgment areas early to keep reporting timelines on track.
- Directly manage the Assistant Controller and Reporting Manager, with oversight of the GL and AP teams, setting performance goals and building technical and leadership depth for succession.
- Author and maintain the accounting policies and procedures manual and the delegation of authority framework.
- Own the accounting department budget, including headcount, systems, and professional fees, and forecast staffing needs as the business scales.
- Partner with FP&A and Treasury on forecasting inputs, cash reporting, and liquidity planning.
- Advise supply chain, merchandising, and fulfillment operations on the accounting treatment of inventory, vendor rebates, and free goods.
- Provide accounting due diligence and structuring guidance for M&A, new logistics partnerships, and market expansion.
- Own the general ledger and ERP architecture, requirements, and implementations, driving automation of close, reconciliation, and reporting to support growing transaction volume without proportional headcount growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; active CPA license required.
- 8 to 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 to 5+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Reporting leadership role.
- Public company or public company readiness experience preferred; experience guiding a company through an IPO, de-SPAC, or similar transition is a strong plus.
- Big 4 or national firm experience in audit or technical accounting advisory strongly preferred, ideally serving retail, e-commerce, logistics, or consumer products clients.
