Job summary

Emerson is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Contracts, to lead the Contract Services function across the Americas, with primary responsibility for English-language sales pursuits. You’ll oversee a team of Contracts Counsels and Practitioners, guiding negotiations, compliance, and risk management on complex matters.

You will shape strategy, mentor staff, and interface with customers and stakeholders to close deals, including complex multi-BU and international contracts.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of work experience in a contracts-related role.
• Law Degree and licensed to practice law in US or Emerson applicable jurisdiction.
• Strong Coaching & mentoring skills.
• Intermediate MS Office skills.
• Excellent oral and written English language skills.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Contract law & principles.
• Commercial provisions such as warranty, liquidated damages/penalties, payment & freight terms, documentary credits and bank guarantees/sureties.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, drafts and negotiates agreements and transaction documents in compliance with applicable policies and legal and ethical standards, without supervision.
• Manages the Contract Services team and all requests for all Business Units in the Americas World Area.
• Act as Global Contracts Lead role on Global Strategic Accounts.
• Develops and communicates creative solutions and mitigation strategies to key negotiations.
• Applies expert subject matter knowledge to manage staff activities in solving complex business/technical issues within established policies.
• Mentors, trains, and supports the development of Contracts Services personnel.
• Recruits direct staff members and assists in the recruitment of other Contract Services personnel within the region.
• Provides advice during the approval process to assist business owners in making informed decisions and secure appropriate approvals.
• Interfaces with customers, members of the legal team and other Emerson stakeholders to bring deals to closure.
• May communicate directly and regularly with government agencies.
• Analyses business, financial, and legal risks, and acts as a key advisor to English speaking region’s management on the development of overall policies and long-term goals of the organization.
• Research information on existing agreements and contractual programs, assisting with analysis and compiling data for reports.
• Provides contract-related guidance to Sales, Project Management and other stakeholders.
• Legal research; Provides independent legal advice and interpretation of legal matters, including the application of law.
• Provides direction to outside counsel on routine matters.
