Job summary

The South Bend Clinic is seeking a Medical Assistant at our Eddy Street Campus in South Bend, IN. This 40-hour week role supports the Internal Medicine department, Monday–Friday, with duties spanning patient triage, clinical procedure support, and accurate documentation in Epic.

Candidates should be certified, or have related experience, and bring strong organization, communication, and multi-tasking abilities to a busy office environment. HIPAA adherence is essential.

Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant or non-certified with related experience.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

• Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic.
• Assists with clinical procedures and medication administration.

Responsibilities

• Provides triage and manages office flow to meet patient medical and service needs.
• Performs the technical component of clinical procedures.

• Greet patients and room them per department protocol.
• Maintains logs for equipment (refrigerator, autoclave, etc.).

• Responds appropriately to emergencies.
• Cross-trains in other positions as directed by management.
• Adheres to HIPAA and clinic policies.

Responsibilities

• Provides ongoing triage and management of office flow to meet patients’ medical and service needs in order to maintain optimal patient flow.
• Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
• Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
• Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
• Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms them per department protocol.
• Maintains accurate/current logs for equipment, i.e., refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart, etc.
• Verifies patient insurance coverage for pre-certification, referrals and/or authorizations and documents in Epic.
• Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines and requirements to help direct patient care.
• Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
• Cross trains in other positions where appropriate as determined by manager. Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
• Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
• Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Certified Medical Assistant or non-certified with related experience.
