Smithfield Foods is seeking an Automation & Controls leader to drive strategy across global operations, standardize architectures, and oversee validation of automation and robotics systems. You will partner with U.S.

and international teams to deploy safe, compliant, and scalable solutions that meet regulatory standards and optimize performance. The role requires strong engineering knowledge, cross-functional leadership, and frequent travel to support multi-site manufacturing and supplier

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Robotics or related field with 5+ years in automation, controls or manufacturing engineering.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, controls architecture and machine safety systems.
• Experience qualifying and validating manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies and safety systems.
• Experience collaborating with global engineering teams, international OEMs and multi-site manufacturing.
• Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, RIA, NFPA, UL and electrical codes.
• Excellent communication, leadership and project management skills.
• Ability to travel domestically >50% and internationally as required.

Responsabilités

• Lead automation controls strategy: develop, review, and standardize architectures, PLCs, HMIs, networks, data platforms, and standards globally.
• Lead qualification, validation, and acceptance testing of automation and advanced manufacturing systems.
• Conduct machine safety assessments and controls reviews for compliance.
• Collaborate with US, China, and WH Group teams to transfer and standardize proven technologies.
• Work with OEMs and developers to implement next-gen automation, robotics, and digital manufacturing.
• Evaluate processing controls, packaging systems, robotics, machine vision, X-ray, metal detection, and traceability for scalability.
• Conduct supplier audits, facility evaluations, and system validation early in projects.
• Serve as automation lead on strategic capital projects with compliance support.
