Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Minnesota is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to lead qualification, deployment, and standardization of controls, robotics, machine vision, and advanced manufacturing for processing, packaging, and end‑of‑line operations.

You will partner with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to transfer proven automation technologies, ensure regulatory compliance and safety, and guide capital projects from design review to implementation, enabling scalable, global solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required and 5+ years in industrial automation, controls, robotics, or manufacturing engineering.
Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, controls architecture, and machine safety systems.
Experience qualifying and validating manufacturing equipment and working with global engineering teams and OEMs.
Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, RIA, NFPA, UL electrical provisions is preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead development, review, and standardization of controls architectures across global operations.
Lead qualification, validation, and acceptance testing of automation and related technologies.
Conduct machine safety assessments and reviews to ensure regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
Partner with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to transfer and adapt automation technologies.
Collaborate with OEMs and internal stakeholders to implement next-generation automation and AI-enabled inspection.
