Job summary

John Crane, a part of Smiths Group, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Applications Eng (Couplings) in Pasadena, TX, for full-time engagement. The role focuses on delivering technical expertise across the coupling product portfolio and supporting customers, distributors and sales teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Ideal candidates have a degree in mechanical engineering and at least 3 years in rotating equipment or related fields, with strong power transmission knowledge, problem-solving

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in rotating equipment, couplings, drivetrain systems or reliability engineering.
• Strong understanding of power transmission, shaft alignment, vibration, torque transmission and rotating equipment reliability.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations for sizing, torque, speed, horsepower, moment loading and service factors.
• Proficiency with ERP, engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent analytical and customer-facing skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in a diverse, global company is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate customer applications and operating conditions to recommend coupling technologies and configurations.
• Review equipment data such as power, torque, speed, shaft separation, misalignment, service factors and environmental conditions for proper coupling selection.
• Prepare technical proposals, quotations, engineering calculations and application documentation to support sales opportunities.
• Serve as the primary technical resource for sales teams, distributors, OEMs, end users and internal stakeholders.
• Review customer specifications to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements.
• Provide engineering support for custom coupling designs, special applications and retrofit opportunities.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, operations and supply chain to address technical questions and support project execution.
