Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an EMT to perform nursing procedures and deliver immediate care to the critically ill and injured, including patients and employees of Giti Tire.

You will assess, stabilize, and prepare patients for transport, administer first aid or life support, and coordinate with EMS or police and fire departments. A valid SC EMT certification and BLS are required, with 12 scheduled hours weekly as a PRN employee.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or GED required.
• NREMT EMT or Advanced EMT Certification required.
• SC EMT Basic or Advanced Certification required.
• AHA BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assess nature and extent of injury or illness to prioritize care.
• Administer first aid or life support as needed.
• Remain calm in stressful situations to plan care.
• Provide compassionate, accurate patient care.
• Document health information per clinic policy.
• Coordinate transport with EMS or police/fire as needed.
• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
• Check, restock, inventory, and clean equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Ensure certifications and licenses are up to date.

Job Description

The EMT performs nursing procedures, tasks to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured.

• Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize care.
• Administer first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured person.
• Remain calm in stressful situations to quickly gather facts, evaluate situations, draw conclusions, develop plan of care, and act.
• Provides compassionate, responsive, and accurate patient care.
• Document patient health information per clinic policy.
• Notify Giti Tire Department leaders and EHS Department per clinic policy regarding Workman’s Compensation injuries and clinic recommendations for patients to leave.
• Coordinate transport with emergency medical teams or police or fire department personnel when needed.
• Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal. Elevated level of people skills to ensure appropriate communication with manager, co-workers, hospital personnel, Giti Tire departments/management team, and outside resources. Ability to apply critical thinking skills to all situations.
• Checking, restocking, inventorying, and cleaning any equipment operated by the clinic.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Assure that all certifications, licenses, and registrations are up to date.

High School Degree or GED required

Certifications

National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT or Advanced EMT Certification. Ability to possess and maintain a South Carolina Emergency Medical Technician Basic or Advanced EMT Certification Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
