Job summary

City of Arlington seeks a GIS Technician to support stormwater engineering and floodplain management. You will map and analyze data, review floodplain permit applications, and assist in preparing engineering plans and exhibits using GIS, AutoCAD, and office software.

The role requires collaboration with engineers, field checks, and maintaining regulatory floodplain records. Two years of college and related experience, plus a Texas driver’s license, are preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil engineering principles related to drainage and floodplain management.
• Experience with GIS mapping, data management, and spatial analysis.
• Ability to read engineering plans and topographic maps.
• Proficiency with CAD tools and related software.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and QC GIS data and assets including stormwater infrastructure and flood studies.
• Review and comment on floodplain development permit applications for compliance with regulations.
• Prepare exhibits, charts, graphs, and location maps using GIS, MS Office, Adobe, and related tools.
• Map and analyze stormwater and floodplain data using GIS and LiDAR imagery to assess flood risks.
• Maintain regulatory floodplain map repository and support files.
• Assist in designing and preparing engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for stormwater projects.
• Draft in AutoCAD to prepare and revise engineering drawings and construction plans.
• Assist in maintaining the Impervious Coverage Database.
• Provide information to engineers, contractors, and the public regarding policies and plans.
