Job summary

Allen County Assessor’s Office is seeking a GIS Assessment Technician to maintain accurate property information for over 160,000 parcels. You will work with GIS data, process transfers, updates, and new subdivisions, and help analyze market data used in valuation.

The role emphasizes learning Indiana assessment standards, working standard daytime hours, and collaborating with county departments and the public to resolve questions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least two years of GIS experience and understanding of legal descriptions.
• Experience with GIS/ESRI or similar mapping software.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
• Ability to read maps, aerial photographs, and legal descriptions.
• Detail oriented with strong analytical and data skills.
• Good communication with coworkers and the public.
• Experience with GIS, property assessment, CAMA systems, EagleView, or related fields is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Research and maintain property information using GIS and mapping tools.
• Process property transfers, parcel splits, combinations, and new subdivisions.
• Create and update parcels in the CAMA system including ownership, addresses, and acreage.
• Review aerial imagery and maps to ensure accurate property lines and land characteristics.
• Maintain agricultural property data including acreage and land use types.
• Handle data from the County Auditor and ensure timely processing.
• Research and analyze market data used in property valuation.
• Develop and analyze ratio studies and other assessment data.
• Use GIS to answer questions about land use and parcel characteristics.
• Collaborate with county departments, title companies, realtors, and the public to resolve questions.
