Job summary

City of Norfolk, VA is seeking a GIS Programmer to analyze, design, code, test, and implement GIS applications. You will prepare documentation, train staff, and support GIS projects across departments while maintaining websites and internet GIS tools.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2–3 years of GIS programming experience, with proficiency in SAS/SPSS and multiple GIS software packages. Strong municipal project experience is a plus.

Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in GIS programming.
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Information Technology, Transportation, Engineering, or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience as a GIS Programmer.
Proficiency with SAS/SPSS and GIS software is highly desired; experience in municipal transportation or utilities a plus.

Responsibilities

Develops and tests GIS programs; conducts unit and system testing.
Provides training to staff on system utilization and GIS applications.
Maintains websites and GIS internet applications; troubleshoots site issues.
Analyzes requirements and proposes in-house or package solutions; documents work.
Assists users and supports ongoing GIS projects across departments.
