Job summary
San Mateo County Information Services Department seeks a GIS and Open Data Supervisor to lead the GIS and Open Data Program. You will supervise a team, oversee GIS infrastructure development, and manage projects to support county departments in data-driven decision making.
The role requires strong leadership, governance, and collaboration skills, with experience in geospatial technologies and open data initiatives. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Redwood City, CA.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in GIS, with 2+ years in lead or supervisory roles.
- Strong knowledge of geospatial technologies and open data principles.
- Experience delivering geospatial services and managing GIS infrastructure.
- Ability to develop GIS data standards and governance policies.
- Proven ability to collaborate with county departments and external agencies.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the GIS and Open Data Program and oversee day-to-day operations.
- Manage development and maintenance of the County's GIS infrastructure.
- Plan, implement, and manage GIS projects to support decision-making.
- Develop and enforce GIS data standards and data governance.
- Mentor GIS analysts and technicians and conduct performance evaluations.
- Coordinate open data initiatives and publish datasets.
- Prepare and evaluate RFPs and define project deliverables and timelines.
