Job summary

The San Mateo County Information Services Department seeks a GIS and Open Data Supervisor to lead the GIS and Open Data Program, manage day-to-day operations, and ensure timely delivery of geospatial services.

The ideal candidate will supervise GIS analysts, oversee infrastructure and data standards, and collaborate with County departments to support data-driven decision-making. Strong leadership and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in MIS/CS or related field; five (5) years of increasingly responsible database management experience
• Lead or supervisory experience in information services or GIS programs is preferred

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the GIS and Open Data Program, overseeing day-to-day operations
• Oversee development/maintenance of GIS infrastructure, databases, servers, and software
• Plan, implement, and manage GIS projects to support County departments
• Develop GIS data standards and policies ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Collaborate with County departments and external agencies to identify GIS needs
• Mentor GIS analysts and technicians, providing guidance and performance evaluations
• Stay up-to-date with GIS technologies and trends; recommend innovative solutions
• Manage RFP processes, project scoping, deliverables, and timelines
• Coordinate integration of GIS with other systems for data sharing and interoperability
