Job summary

Actalent is seeking a GIS Specialist / Distribution Field Technician in Raleigh, NC for a Contract to Hire role blending GIS technician work with field assignments on electric distribution projects and joint use/fiber make-ready programs.

You will gain hands-on experience with GIS software, field operations, and client-focused deliverables, with opportunities for leadership and mentorship in a fast-paced team environment. Travel weekly overnight within VA and NC is required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience; internships count toward experience.
Ability to perform both field and office work.
Comfort in outdoor environments with extensive walking and field data collection.
Excellent verbal and written communication with teammates, clients, and stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook).
Ability to work in an Agile team environment with collaboration and feedback.
Willingness to travel weekly overnight within Virginia and North Carolina.
Interest in power delivery, joint use engineering, and electric distribution systems.

Responsibilities

Use GIS and CAD software to support electric distribution projects and maintain data.
Update GIS data from as-built drawings and work logs.
Identify data inconsistencies and coordinate corrections.
Collect GIS data at state/municipality levels to support projects.
Attend meetings with teammates, clients, and stakeholders to review requirements.
Collaborate in an Agile team to deliver high-quality work.
Complete engineering design tasks for distribution projects.
Support storm response and emergency mobilization as needed.
Perform extensive field data collection for telecom attachments to distribution infrastructure.
Work in a two-person field team using iPads, GIS apps, and surveying tools.
Document field data thoroughly and flag unusual conditions for review.
Coordinate engineering determinations with engineering/design personnel.
Travel regularly to VA and NC for field assignments, including overnight stays.
Operate and maintain rental vehicles safely in field assignments.
Learn and use mobile field-data collection apps and new technologies.
