Job summary
The City of Riverside is hiring a GIS Analyst Trainee to support the Power Generation Division’s Geographic Information System. You will participate in data development, spatial analysis, and basic GIS application development to serve city departments and the public.
You will assist in creating maps, topology, and GPS control points, while providing timely GIS products and documentation. The role requires coordination with surveyors and field operations, with after-hours support as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or closely related field.
- Experience: One year of full-time work experience in drafting, engineering and/or using GIS; GIS experience with GIS software, CAD, and GIS equipment is desirable.
- Education: Associate's Degree with GIS coursework for Option II.
- Experience: Three years of full-time work in drafting, engineering and/or using GIS; GIS software experience desirable.
- Education: High School graduation (GED) with GIS certification may substitute for one year of required experience; Experience: Five years in GIS.
- Highly desired qualifications include electric industry knowledge, ArcMap/ArcFM experience, AutoCAD familiarity, interpreting electric drawings, and ArcGIS Pro mapping.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, implementation, operation, performance, and maintenance of the City's Geographic Information System.
- Assist with analyzing spatial and tabular information to solve problems involving geographic relationships.
- Develop and program basic GIS applications using various programming languages.
- Develop query and relational query methodologies for manipulation of geographically referenced data.
- Produce publications including reports, exhibits, maps, atlases, and other cartographic projects in digital and hardcopy formats.
- Create topology files for theme integration.
- Interface with surveyors to implement GPS control points collected in the field.
- Verify positional and relative accuracy of GPS data.
- Provide technical support to City departments and clients requesting GIS products with maps, charts, and graphs in a timely manner.
- Prepare GIS system documentation.
- Provide on-call after-hours support 24x7 as assigned.
- Provide scheduled after-hours support for migrations, installations, troubleshooting and upgrades.
