Job summary

The City of Fredericksburg seeks a GIS Analyst to support citywide operations by maintaining geospatial data, producing high-quality GIS products, and ensuring GIS systems are accurate, accessible, and reliable for staff, public safety, and the community.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Cartography, Geography, Landscape Ecology, Natural Resources, Computer Science, or related field.
• Two years of professional GIS experience involving data management, map production, and spatial analysis.
• Equivalent education and experience considered.
• Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver’s License.
• Ability to pass a Police background check and obtain CJIS Certification.

Responsibilities

• GIS Operations and Data Management: Maintain geospatial datasets, develop databases and GIS portals.
• Data Analysis and Support: Create maps and apps, train GIS users.
• Technical Expertise and Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot GIS systems, script workflows, ensure system reliability.
• Communication and Collaboration: Emphasizes GIS principles, communicate decisions, collaborate across departments.
