Job summary

City of Encinitas is seeking a motivated GIS Analyst I to support the City's GIS and transform data into meaningful information that improves City services. The role develops geospatial data, creates maps, dashboards, and web apps, performs spatial analysis, and provides GIS support across departments.

The ideal candidate is customer-focused, detail-oriented, and eager to learn emerging GIS technologies while solving real-world challenges through innovative geospatial solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Computer Science or a related field.
• Two years of professional GIS experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro is required.
• Experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, mobile GIS applications, SQL, Python, or data visualization tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manages GIS requests and projects from City staff and the public; interprets data and prepares documentation.
• Creates, edits, maintains, analyzes, and visualizes geographic and tabular data; performs data conversion, geocoding, integration, and spatial analysis.
• Produces professional maps, web maps, dashboards, reports, and other cartographic products.
• Assists with GIS software implementation, testing, upgrades, and maintenance.
• Maintains GIS datasets and metadata to meet data standards and business requirements.
• Provides GIS training and support to City staff for GIS apps, web mapping tools, dashboards and mobile GIS.
• Assists with integrating GIS data with enterprise systems and City workflows.
• Creates metadata, data dictionaries, and GIS procedures.
