Job summary

Arbormetrics (AMS) seeks a GIS Technician to analyze spatial data for utility vegetation management and support infrastructure planning in the Asheville, NC area. You will build and maintain GIS databases, create maps and dashboards, and perform spatial analyses to identify trends and risks.

The role requires 1–2 years of GIS experience, a Geography/GIS or related degree, and proficiency with ArcGIS/QGIS. Travel to field sites and strong data‑driven reporting are expected.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of GIS software and database experience (ESRI Suite)
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or related field
• Proficiency in ArcGIS and QGIS; experience with spatial data formats and coordinate systems
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; valid driver’s license and willingness to travel

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret spatial data to support utility vegetation management (UVM) programs and infrastructure planning
• Create, maintain, and update GIS databases, maps, and dashboards
• Perform spatial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
• Support field crews with reports, maps, spreadsheets, and data inquiries
• Collaborate with field teams to integrate GPS‑collected data into GIS systems
• Generate reports and visualizations to support decision‑making and regulatory compliance
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency across platforms and projects
• Assist in developing automated workflows using GIS tools and scripting
• Travel may be required for field data collection or coordination
