Job summary

University of Houston is hiring a GIS Analyst to support campus planning, operations, research, and public engagement with geospatial data, maps, dashboards, and web apps.

The analyst builds and maintains datasets, performs spatial analyses for planning studies and capital projects, and assists with emergency mapping and regulatory reporting. A four-year degree and 3+ years of related experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• 3+ years of directly related GIS experience preferred.
• Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise.
• Strong Python/ArcPy scripting experience for ETL and automation.
• Ability to create maps, dashboards, and web apps for diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and maintain geospatial datasets using ArcGIS Pro, Enterprise, and Online.
• Produce maps, web maps, and StoryMaps for planning studies and projects.
• Build and manage campus basemaps, services, and symbol libraries with standards.
• Perform analyses (network, proximity, suitability, 3D) and summarize results.
• Integrate CAD/BIM, LiDAR, and remote-sensing data into GIS workflows.
• Automate ETL, data validation, and map production with Python/ArcPy, ModelBuilder, or FME.
• Establish metadata, QA/QC, data governance, and a data catalog for stakeholders.
• Configure dashboards, web apps, and editing experiences for non-technical users.
• Support geospatial components of regulatory reporting and continuity plans.

The analyst builds and maintains datasets, runs spatial analyses for planning studies and capital projects, and helps with emergency mapping and regulatory reporting.

• Collect, clean, and maintain geospatial datasets such as parcels, buildings, utilities, land use, and mobility layers using ESRI ArcGIS Pro, Enterprise, and Online.
• Produce maps, web maps, and StoryMaps for planning studies, capital projects, emergency response, and campus wayfinding.
• Build and manage campus basemaps, feature services, and symbology libraries with consistent standards across projects.
• Perform network, proximity, suitability, density, overlay, and 3D scene and visibility analyses, summarizing results in tables, graphics, and dashboards.
• Integrate CAD/BIM, survey, and remote-sensing data such as LiDAR and aerial imagery into GIS.
• Automate ETL, data validation, and map production with Python/ArcPy, ModelBuilder, or FME.
• Establish metadata, versioning, QA/QC checks, and data governance, and maintain a data catalog for campus stakeholders.
• Configure ArcGIS dashboards, web apps, and feature editing experiences for non-technical users.
• Bring a four-year job-related degree and at least 3 years of directly related experience, with education accepted in lieu of experience.
• Support geospatial components of regulatory reporting and maintain continuity plans for GIS services.
