Job summary

University of Houston seeks a skilled GIS professional to collect, clean, and manage campus geospatial datasets using ArcGIS Pro/Enterprise and related tools. You will produce maps, dashboards, and StoryMaps for planning, capital projects, emergency response, and campus wayfinding.

Responsibilities include building basemaps, performing advanced spatial analyses, integrating CAD/BIM and LiDAR data, and establishing data governance with metadata and QA/QC processes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related GIS experience.
• Education in lieu of experience accepted for some roles.
• Preferred: Degree in Geography/Geospatial Science, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, GIS, Computer Science, or related field; or associate's degree with 2–5 years GIS experience.

Responsibilities

• Collects, cleans, and maintains geospatial datasets (parcels, buildings, utilities, land use, mobility, environmental layers).
• Produces cartographically sound maps, web maps, and StoryMaps for planning studies, capital projects, and campus wayfinding.
• Builds and manages campus basemaps, feature services, and symbology libraries with consistent standards.
• Performs spatial analyses (network, proximity, suitability, density, overlay, 3D) and summarizes results in tables, graphics, dashboards.
• Develops repeatable workflows for recurring analyses (space utilization, mobility, sustainability metrics).
• Integrates CAD/BIM, survey, and remote-sensing into GIS; reconciles coordinate systems and dimensional accuracy.
• Establishes metadata, versioning, QA/QC checks, and datagovernance; maintains a data catalog.
• Documents processes and configures ArcGIS dashboards, web apps, and features editing experiences for non-technical users.
• Uses Python/ArcPy, ModelBuilder, and/or FME to automate ETL and map production.
• Supports regulatory reporting and data privacy requirements for GIS components.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of boththeoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical orprofessional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than oneprofessional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normallyobtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree froma college or university or an equivalent in-depth specializedtraining program that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed.

Preferred: Degree in Geography/Geospatial Science, UrbanPlanning, Environmental Science, GIS, Computer Science, or relatedfield or associate's degree with 25 years of professional GISexperience (higher-education or public sector preferred).

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directlyjob-related experience. Preferred: Experience integrating CAD/BIM,survey, and remote sensing into campus GIS. 3D GIS (Scene Viewer,ArcGIS Urban), network analysis, and mobility/accessibilitymodeling. Familiarity with open-source tools (QGIS), cloud GIS, andversioned enterprise geodatabases. Prior work supporting campusplanning, facilities management, sustainability programs, oremergency operations.
