Job summary

Brunswick County is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst to collect, analyze, and interpret geographic data supporting decision-making across departments.

You will design, develop, and maintain GIS applications, create cartographically accurate maps, and generate reports to support planning and resource management. Strong ArcGIS Pro/Online skills, Python/Arcade knowledge, and CJIS certification readiness are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography or related field and 3–5 years of GIS experience.
  • Experience with geoprocessing and data analysis using ArcGIS Pro, Web maps, and ESRI web apps.
  • Basic knowledge of Python and Arcade.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience maintaining data in an ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Geodatabase.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain CJIS Security level certification.

Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst

The GIS Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geographic data to support decision-making processes. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining geographic information systems and GIS applications tailored to meet the specific needs of various departments. The GIS Analyst creates visually appealing, cartographically accurate maps and spatial visualizations that effectively communicate complex geographical information to diverse audiences. They ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency across all GIS assets. The position also includes performing spatial analysis, developing customized GIS solutions, and generating reports to support project development, resource management, and strategic planning. The GIS Analyst collaborates with stakeholders to identify requirements, develop user friendly GIS tools, and enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, the role involves providing technical support and training to users, promoting best practices in GIS usage, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, aesthetically pleasing maps and applications that meet organizational standards.

  • The GIS Analyst reports directly to the GIS Administrator.Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography or related field AND three (3) to five (5) years of experience working with GIS software.
  • Experience with geoprocessing and data analysis using ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro, Web maps, and ESRI's web-based applications.
  • Basic knowledge of python and arcade.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience maintaining data in an ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Geodatabase.
  • Good analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain appropriate Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security level certification.
Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
