Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 in Illinois is seeking a Girls Track and Field Assistant Coach at Proviso West High School to support the Head Coach in developing a competitive program and safe, inclusive student-athlete experiences.

The role requires coaching knowledge, IHSA compliance, a valid teaching certificate or ASEP/NFHS certification, and strong collaboration with students, staff, and families.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) OR ASEP/NFHS Certification as mandated by IHSA.
• CPR/AED certification per IHSA requirements.
• IHSA concussion awareness training and safety protocols.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance per IHSA requirements.
• Title IX training compliance.
• Strong knowledge of track and field rules, techniques, and strategies.
• Coaching certification through ASEP/NFHS or IHSA-approved programs.
• Concussion certification valid for two years.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Coach to design and run drills, practice plans, and conditioning sessions.
• Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics, equipment setup, and scorekeeping.
• Maintain and inventory athletic equipment and coordinate repairs.
• Monitor IHSA rules, district policies, CPR/AED readiness, and concussion management.
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and document physicals and clearances.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff and escalate concerns as needed.
• Participate in preseason meetings, trainings, and postseason equipment tasks.
• Coordinate with Athletic Director on schedules, logistics, and budget tracking.
