Job summary

Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL seeks a Girls Track and Field Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating all facets of the program for student-athletes’ growth and safety.

This is a non-tenure, extra-duty stipend position under the Athletic Director, requiring teaching or IHSA/NFHS ASEP certification, CPR/AED and concussion training, and background checks; eligible for district stipend schedule.

Qualifications

• Requires Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09 or 10) or ASEP/NFHS certification.
• CPR/AED certification as required by IHSA.
• IHSA concussion training and safety protocol knowledge.
• Background check and fingerprint clearance per Illinois School Code.
• Title IX training compliance.
• Strong coaching knowledge of rules/techniques.
• Proven coaching experience in girls track and field.
• Strong instructional skills for individual and team fundamentals.
• Commitment to diverse, inclusive athletic programs.
• Coaching certification through ASEP/NFHS or IHSA-approved program.
• Concussion certification with typical two-year validity.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Coach in designing skill-development drills, practice plans, and conditioning sessions.
• Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics, equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, and scorekeeping.
• Maintain equipment inventory and coordinate repairs and issuance.
• Ensure adherence to IHSA rules, district policies, and safety protocols including CPR/AED readiness and concussion management.
• Monitor athlete eligibility and manage required documentation (physicals, clearances).
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and administers concerns to Head Coach.
• Attend preseason parent meetings, team briefings, trainings, and postseason equipment returns.
• Assist with game scheduling, travel logistics, and budget tracking.
• Prepare materials for parent/booster meetings and assist in PR and program updates.
• Help prepare compliance documentation for Title IX, ISBE, IHSA, and district policies.
