Job summary

Proviso West High School is seeking an enthusiastic Girls Tennis Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in developing a competitive program. The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and student-athlete development within a positive team culture.

Under the Athletic Director and school leadership, the assistant coach collaborates with staff and families to deliver effective coaching, mentorship, and program growth. This is a stipend, extra-duty position contingent on enrollment and funding.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate or ASEP/NFHS certification as mandated by IHSA.
• CPR/AED certification per IHSA requirements.
• IHSA concussion awareness training completed as required by state/federal regulations.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance.
• Completion of Title IX training to ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Coach to design skill-development drills, practice plans, and conditioning.
• Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics: equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, and scorekeeping.
• Maintain inventory of athletic equipment and coordinate repairs and issuance.
• Monitor IHSA rules, district policies, and safety protocols including CPR/AED readiness and concussion management.
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and documentation (physical exams, academic clearances).
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff; escalate concerns when needed.
