Job summary

MUHA's Endoscopy Unit is seeking a GI Technical Specialist who supports endoscopic procedures and provides direct patient care before, during, and after GI events. Under RN supervision, you will help prepare patients, assist with instruments, and maintain a clean, safe work area.

Position requires high school diploma (or equivalent) and BLS certification with ongoing CPR. 40 scheduled hours per week; hourly pay; West Campus CHS facility; on-site work in Charleston, SC.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required for GI Technical Specialist I.
  • GI Technical Specialist II requires either 1 year of GI Tech I experience at MUSC CHS or 1 year of patient care experience in a health care facility; or a college degree, or nursing school enrollment with Nursing Fundamentals completion; or enrollment in healthcare field; or Nursing/Medical Assistant training.

The GI Technical Specialist on the Endoscopy Unit reports to the Nurse Manager. Under general supervision of the RN, assists with endoscopic procedures and provides direct patient care before, during and following GI procedures. Cleans and maintains all endoscopic instruments and equipment. Maintains a clean work area and assists with patient transportation.

Minimum Training And Education
  • GI Technical Specialist I: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • GI Technical Specialist II: At least 1 year work experience in a .6fte GI Technical Specialist I position at MUSC CHS or 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility; or a college degree, or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; or active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution; or a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant, or equivalent training.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
  • Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
