Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) to support Gastroenterology and Pulmonology at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.

The MIT will serve as the subject matter expert for GI endoscopic equipment, assist in complex procedures, and ensure equipment performance. Responsibilities include preparing rooms, assisting with biopsies, maintaining inventory, and providing on-call support for endoscopic cases.

Qualifications

• Must be a United States Citizen.
• English: proficient in basic written and spoken English.
• GS-8 grade level: 1 year of specialized experience comparable to GS-7.
• Experience includes assisting staff with complex procedures such as ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
• Proficient with GI endoscopic equipment and ensure proper performance of equipment.
• Ability to train other technicians in basic endoscopic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to Gastroenterology and Pulmonology physicians.
• Serve as subject matter expert for endoscopy equipment and supplies.
• Assist with diagnostic examinations and endoscopy-related procedures (e.g., DISE, ERCP, EUS, EBUS).
• Maintain and ensure proper performance of endoscopic equipment and SOP adherence.
• Work outside the GI unit to provide on-call support for endoscopic cases.
• Prepare procedural rooms and assist in obtaining biopsies and specimen handling.
