Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking an Endoscopic Gastroenterology Technician to support physicians and nurses during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. You will prepare rooms, arrange instruments, and maintain a sterile environment to ensure patient safety.

You will assist in colonoscopies, EGDs, ERCPs, EUS, and other GI interventions, operate and troubleshoot endoscopic equipment, and help with specimen handling and documentation.

Qualifications

• Strong infection control knowledge and aseptic technique to maintain a sterile environment.
• Experience with decontamination, sterilization, and instrument handling.
• Ability to assist in procedures under supervision of nurses and surgeons.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and attention to patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Prepare procedure rooms with all instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring sterility.
• Assist gastroenterologists and nurses during colonoscopies, EGD, ERCP, and related procedures.
• Operate and maintain endoscopy equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions as needed.
• Handle endoscopic instruments according to infection-control protocols and proper sterilization.
• Label specimens and document handling with the nurse in the room.
• Monitor patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures.
• Maintain inventory and restock supplies to ensure adequate stock.
• Assist with advanced endoscopic techniques and device exchanges, maintaining sterile fields.
