Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • Six years of electric utility-related experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical theory and codes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and customers.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and standard software.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering team leadership and technical guidance.
  • Ensure use of standards and procedures; propose improvements.
  • Collaborate across departments to minimize workflow issues.
  • Develop and mentor technicians for technical growth.
  • Train team on technical matters and processes.
  • Ensure accuracy of calculations, reports, and drawings.
  • Design electric utility facilities and UG/OH systems for new developments.
  • Create work orders and estimates; coordinate with customers and other departments.
  • Attend planning meetings and review submittals; interact with city and utilities.
  • Assist with system restoration after storms or outages; support after-hours emergencies.

FUNCTION

Team Leader providing guidance and electric system technical evaluation, design, planning, data gathering, estimating, staking, and mapping

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engineering Technician team leader providing technical guidance, direction, and coordination
  • Ensures the use of proper standards and procedures and recommends process improvement
  • Collaborates with peers and other departments to help minimize workflow issues and provides guidance to the team on standards and guidelines regarding technical matters
  • Develop and mentor technicians for continuous improvement of technical expertise
  • Train team members on technical matters and departmental processes
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of calculations, reports, and drawings
  • Design of electric utility facilities
  • Design of UG and OH systems for new developments
  • Design new construction, upgrades, and replacements
  • Creation of work orders and estimates
  • Communicate and meet with customers to address concerns, requests, deficiencies, service problems, and outage planning
  • Interface with other City departments and other governmental entities
  • Attend City planning meetings and provide review of various submittals
  • Gathering of field data for engineering functions
  • Staking of electric facilities
  • Research legal documents for easements and property descriptions
  • Mapping and inspection of electric utility equipment
  • Assist in the development and revisions of construction standards and engineering reference material
  • Evaluate and recommend construction and operating practices
  • Assist with system restoration due to storms, failures, and abnormalities
  • Subject to emergency response after normal working hours
  • Know, understand, and follow GEUS safety rules, policies, and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred
  • Minimum of six years of electric utility related experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proficient working knowledge of electrical theory
  • Mastery of all tools and equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management as well as customers, City and state personnel, and personnel from other utilities
  • Proficient working knowledge of NESC and NEC rules and regulations, safety rules, and APPA Safety Manual
  • Proficiency with standard PC software including MS Office software
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside under adverse conditions
