Job summary

Extendicare in Corydon, IA is seeking a part-time Recreation Aide to plan, implement and evaluate resident recreation programs. You will set up activity areas, transport residents, and monitor their well-being, reporting changes to the Program Manager and nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Proof of completion of Recreation and/or Gerontology degree or diploma.
• Experience with geriatric populations, including cognitive impairment/dementia.
• Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
• Knowledge of care planning and resident assessments.
• Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to plan, implement and evaluate resident recreation programs and one-to-one interventions.
• Empathy and commitment to quality resident care.
• Ability to manage volunteers during evening and weekend programming.
• Ability to handle stress related to long-term care residents.
• Ability to perform physical duties (lifting/pushing, transporting residents).
• Minimum one year experience in Long Term Care is an asset.
