Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• 2-4 years of overall experience in a clinical or related healthcare environment.
• Minimum of 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced setting.
• Proficiency with phlebotomy techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Ability to accurately label specimens and match requisitions to tubes.
• Experience centrifuging, splitting, freezing samples and preparing per test orders.
• Strong data entry and documentation in clinical systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection for all ages, including geriatric patients.
• Explain blood draw procedures to reduce patient anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test orders.
• Match requisitions or labels to specimen tubes with 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and maintain required storage temperatures.
• Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment and work areas.
• Update patient information in laboratory or clinic systems.
• Answer inquiries and communicate results per protocol.
• Follow physicians’ orders and complete required annual trainings.
• Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with 20-40 draws per day.
