Job summary

Invenergy in Chicago is seeking a Staff Engineer, Thermal, to support geothermal and thermal power project development across North America. You will oversee design, permitting, and construction, coordinating with engineering and contractors while ensuring compliance and performance.

The role requires a BS in engineering, 0-2 years experience, familiarity with permitting, and travel up to 25%. Hybrid schedule with in-office Mon-Thu and remote Fri.

Qualifications

• BS in mechanical, electrical, civil, petroleum, chemical or related engineering discipline.
• 0-2+ years’ experience in project engineering management of large capital projects with a focus on geothermal or thermal power generation.
• Familiarity with regulatory, siting, and environmental permitting processes for large-scale industrial projects.
• Knowledge and experience with project design and configuration.
• Experience with geothermal production facilities with focus on translating subsurface energy into usable power.
• Spreadsheet modeling using Microsoft Excel.
• Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must have a valid US driving license.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review basic and detail design for power generation projects.
• Advise on the feasibility of projects based on geothermal technologies and project constraints.
• Lead technical efforts during the development phase and collaborate with reservoir modelling and detailed design teams.
• Perform and review thermal heat balances for thermal power generation projects.
• Support site selection, arrangement development, surveys, environmental studies, permit applications, geotechnical investigations.
• Interface with equipment vendors to explain requirements and proposals.
• Review technical deliverables such as P&ID and equipment specs.
• Provide engineering oversight during design and construction.
• Coordinate with contractors to resolve technical issues.
• Assist oversight of power plant commissioning activities.
